Step into the heart of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage, where ancient traditions and craftsmanship come alive. Each region offers unique customs, stories, and skills passed down through generations, creating a rich tapestry that defines the nation. Embrace the spirit of Azerbaijan and discover the beauty woven into its cultural legacy.
A companion piece to At the Heart of Culture, At the Heart of Craftsmanship pays tribute to Azerbaijan’s traditional crafts, handed down from generation to generation: pottery, copperwork and carpet weaving.
The camera steps into the workshops, as close as possible to the craftsmen. A potter shapes a clay jar in the half-light, lit only by a window. A coppersmith works in a dark forge amid showers of sparks. In macro shots, a copper plate engraved with floral patterns and fingers chasing the metal reveal the precision of each gesture. Outside, in the shade of the trees, a craftsman works beside a pool, surrounded by carpets.
The film plays on the contrast between chiaroscuro interiors, where natural light sculpts the materials, and the incandescent glow of fire and metal.
